Audi is launching a frugal version of the A3 called 1.4 TFSI ultra which can be had not only on the five-door Sportback, but also for the three-door, sedan and convertible. Its heart and soul is as the name suggests a 4-cylinder 1.4-liter TFSI turbocharged gasoline engine developing 150 PS (110 kW) which is enough to allow the three-door version perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 8.1 seconds before reaching a maximum speed of 136.7 mph (220 km/h). The vehicle can return 50 mpg US (60.1 mpg UK or 4.7 liters / 100 km) in the combined cycle with corresponding CO2 emissions of 109 g/km.
Besides launching the A3 1.4 TFSI ultra, Audi has also announced plans to offer an A3 ultra sedan powered by a 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter TDI turbodiesel engine rated at 110 PS (81 kW). Fitted with this engine, the thrifty A3 sedan will return an impressive 71.2 mpg US (85.6 mpg UK or 3.3 liters / 100 km) with 88 g/km of CO2 emissions.
