Audi premieres A3 Sportback g-tron at Geneva Motor Show
Audi has launched an interesting concept based on the A3 Sportback this week in Geneva. It’s called the g-tron and what makes this model special are its two gas tanks which have a capacity of 7 kg (15.3 lbs) for carrying CNG – compressed natural gas at a 200 bar maximum pressure.
These have been made using CFRP – carbon fiber reinforced plastic and when they are entirely full they tip the scales at 27 kg (59.5 lbs). Under the bonnet it’s the standard 1.4-liter TFSI engine producing 110 HP (81 kW) and 200 Nm (147 lb-ft) of torque.
Audi mentions that when the car is utilizing CNG it consumes 3.5 kg / 100 km and has a range of up to 400 km (242 miles). When running on gasoline, the vehicle can do 900 km (559 miles) before running out of juice. If both gasoline and CNG are used, the Audi A3 Sportback g-tron is capable of providing a range of 1,300 km (807 miles).
Regardless if it’s running on gasoline or CNG, the five-door Sportback will do the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 11 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 118 mph (190 km/h).
It has also been fitted with an electronic gas pressure regulator which depending on conditions it can lower or higher the gas flowing from the engine’s cylinders.
