Audi A4 Avant g-tron detailed (videos)

Audi has released additional details concerning the A4 Avant g-tron programmed to go on sale towards the end of next year. As the name suggests, it will be available only as a wagon with power coming from a new 2.0-liter TFSI four-cylinder engine with 170 PS and 270 Nm, but the main novelty here is the CNG compatibility as the model will be able to run on compressed natural gas for more than 500 km. Once there’s less than 0.6 kg CNG available, the car will automatically make the switch to gasoline which will boost the range by an additional 450 km.

After refueling or whenever it’s cold outside, the Audi A4 Avant g-tron will start on gasoline and then immediately it will make the switch to CNG. It comes with four tanks of compressed natural gas installed in the back where there’s also a gasoline tank with a capacity of 25 liters. Audi says the wagon will consume less than 4 kg of CNG per 100 km and during this time it will generate CO2 emissions fewer than 100 g/km.

Refueling is an easy process taking into account the filler necks of both gasoline and CNG tanks are located under a single tank flap. The car is also compatible with Audi’s e-gas which is basically a synthetic methane produced from CO2 and water by using green electricity. When running on e-gas, the A4 Avant g-tron will be CO2 neutral in operation, just like the A3 Sportback g-tron.
