Audi RS6 is once again the fastest car on ice in the world

Ingolstadt-based automaker Audi has teamed up once again with Nokian tires in order to beat the world record for the fastest car on ice. The previous record was established by them in 2011 when the car was able to reach an average speed of 206.05 mph (331.610 km/h) with Janne Laitinen behind the wheel. He is also responsible for this new record as he was able to achieve an average speed of 208.60 mph (335.713 km/h).

The venue for the record-breaking attempt was once again the same 12km-long ice track situated in the Gulf of Bothnia in Oulu, Finland.

The Audi RS6 was allowed a flying start and it was equipped with road-legal and commercially available tires, which are two of the conditions that have to be met in order to be eligible for the Guinness world record. Another condition is that the ice mustn’t be roughened or treated with chemicals. All conditions were met, and the Audi RS6 fitted with Nokian tires was capable of breaking its own previous record established two years ago.
