Audi teases second generation R8
Audi has released the first batch of official teaser images with the second generation R8 supercar. Technical details have not been released but the Ingolstadt-based automaker did say the model will be equipped as standard with LED headlights featuring 37 individual LEDs per each headlight. Those willing to spend more will have the possibility to upgrade to laser headlights which will have an almost twice as powerful high-beam compared to the LEDs. These laser headlights will have one laser module working together with four high-intensity laser diodes and a phosphor converter is going to transform blue light into white light.
Additional official details regarding the second generation R8 have not been released at this point but it is believed the model will be available initially only with a V10 5.2-liter naturally aspirated engine tuned to deliver somewhere in the region of 578 HP. Later during the car’s life span, a smaller turbocharged engine will be introduced, as well as possibly a turbodiesel engine and a plug-in hybrid variant.
Debuting at the Geneva Motor Show in less than three weeks, the second generation R8 will also be exhibited in a fully electric e-tron version set to go on sale from day one together with the V10 model.
