BMW i8 production version will be shown next month in Frankfurt

About a week ago BMW introduced the production version of the i3 so time has come for the i8 hybrid supercar to get an unveiling. This will take place in September at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show as the Bavarian automaker has confirmed the production model will be shown to the public for the very first time, together with the smaller i3. They didn’t disclose specifications concerning the i8 but various reports are indicating it will have a three-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine which will work together with an electric motor generating 170 HP (125 kW) and 184 lb-ft (250 Nm) of torque.

Thanks to this setup, the BMW i8 should be able to perform the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in less than 5 seconds, while fuel consumption should stand at an impressive 78.4 mpg US (94.1 mpg UK or 3 liters / 100 km).

Also at the Frankfurt venue in September, BMW is going to showcase some of its other recent products, such as the third generation of the X5, the all-new 4-Series Coupe and the interesting Active Tourer Outdoor Concept. BMW will allow visitors to test drive several models on a 984-feet (300-meter) long track shaped like an infinity which has three levels.
