Chevrolet has announced plans to introduce the 2015 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab Special Service Vehicle (SSV) this summer exclusively for police use. It’s based on the standard model but has received a high-output alternator, an auxiliary transmission oil cooler and four upfitter switches. The vehicle has also been configured with an auxiliary battery as well as a 110-volt outlet. At an additional cost, Chevrolet can equip the vehicle with a headlight and taillight flasher system, a spotlight, rearview camera along with a “common key” that allows police authorities to use one key for operating all Silverado SSVs.
Its heart and soul is the same V8 5.3-liter EcoTec3 engine capable of developing 355 bhp and a maximum torque of 383 lb-ft sent as standard to the rear wheels but for more money an optional four-wheel drive arrangement will be offered.
