Detroit Electric SP:01 production version revealed

Detroit Electric has released two images with the final design of the SP:01, following a preview concept show a while ago. Gone is the roadster look as the company decided to implement a more appealing fastback body style which they say was optimized with help from computational fluid dynamics as a measure to improve not only stability but also performance. Based on the Lotus Exige, the SP:01 has different front air intake and outlet ducts compared to the original concept and according to Detroit Electric this change has optimized the airflow of the heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

There aren’t any mechanical changes so the SP:01 continues to be powered by a mid-mounted electric motor generating 278 bhp (207 kW) and 280 Nm (206 lb-ft). It’s enough for a 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) run in 3.7 seconds and a 155 mph (250 km/h) top speed while the 37 kWh battery has enough juice to provide a range of 179 miles (288 km).
