Unknown car manufacturer Elio Motors has announced its plans to put their three-wheeler in production next year, with plans to start selling the model in July 2014 at a price tag of 6,800 USD. They have already received no less than 13,000 preorders mostly from those who are on a strict budget or from first-time buyers.
The highlight of the vehicle is its capability to return 49 mpg US (58.8 mpg UK or 4.8 liters / 100 km) in the city and an impressive 84 mpg US (100 mpg UK or 2.8 liters / 100 km) on the highway.
It will have a curb weight of less than 363 kg (800 lbs) and will probably be motivated by a 1.0-liter, 3-cylinder gasoline engine mated to a five-speed automatic transmission which will be sending power to the front axle. The three-wheeler will need 9.6 seconds until 60 mph (96 km/h) and should achieve a top speed of 100 mph (161 km/h).
