Ford confirms next-gen Mustang with a 4-cylinder 2.3-liter in Europe
We finally have some confirmed news from Ford about the highly anticipated next generation of the Mustang. In Europe it will be sold with a 2.3-liter, 4-cylinder engine which probably won’t be available in the United States.
The V8 engine will still be offered in Europe as well but taking into account the high taxes for these big engines on the old continent, probably most of the European customers will opt for the significantly smaller 4-cylinder power unit. It’s the same engine that is found under the hood of the Focus ST where it develops 250 HP (184 kW).
It is important to mention that the variant which will power the 2015 Mustang will have a higher displacement and is expected to be 50 HP more powerful so it will be rated around 300 HP (220 kW). This piece of information has not been confirmed but company insiders are hinting at this power figure.
Since the new Ford Mustang is expected to go on sale sometime in 2015, most likely the Blue Oval company will show it to the public in 2014 at a major auto event probably in the United States where most of the sales will be registered since the Mustang is not popular on the old continent.
