The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell carries a £53,105 OTR starting price for the UK and it can already be ordered. This price tag includes an almost £15,000 discount thanks to the HyFive project as otherwise the vehicle’s full price tag is of £67,985. Hyundai says this is the first mass-produced hydrogen vehicle in the industry and is capable of covering distances of up to 369 miles (594 km). It comes with two hydrogen tanks that have a 5.64 kg combined capacity and there’s also a 24 kWh lithium-ion polymer battery developed by Hyundai in association with LG.
The Hyundai ix35 Fuel Cell is powered by an electric motor developing 136 PS which is enough power to allow the hydrogen vehicle top out at 100 mph (160 km/h). Don’t worry about the hydrogen tanks freezing as Hyundai says the car will start even at -25 degrees.
A production-spec ix35 successful completed 435 miles (700 km) last year without a refill, thus taking down the world record for the longest journey on a single tank of hydrogen.
