The Kia Trail’ster concept has made a comeback in a fresh teaser image ahead of next week’s debut. Chances are the model is based on the Soul but has been envisioned as a soft off-roader judging by the plastic body cladding, increased ride height and chunky tires. Moreover, it uses an electric all-wheel drive system which could be derived from the setup implemented in the 2012 Track’ster concept. Details about the hardware setup are not available at this point but the previous concept used a 2.0-liter inline-four turbocharged gasoline engine delivering 250 bhp to the wheels via an electronically-controlled AWD system and a 6-speed manual transmission.
The Kia Trail’ster concept is going to feature a fully retractable canvas roof whereas the aforementioned Track’ster had a fixed metal roof. There’s at least one more difference between the two concepts as the old one had a three-door layout while this one seems to feature a five-door setup.
All the details will be disclosed on February 12 during the 2015 Chicago Auto Show.
