Lotus Formula 1 car from 1986 crashes at Goodwood Festival of Speed
This year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed was the venue for a minor accident involving a Formula 1 car. It’s not just any F1 car as it’s a 1986 Lotus 98T which was driven by none other than F1 legend Ayrton Senna along with his teammate Johnny Dumfries during the 1986 Formula 1 season. Senna won two races (Spanish and Detroit) during that season with his Lotus powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine unleashing between 1,200 bhp (895 kW) and 1,300 bhp (969 kW). The engine was mated to a 5-speed gearbox in Senna’s car and to a newly developed six-speed transmission in Dumfries’ car which unfortunately was very unreliable.
