McLaren 540C breaks cover
The McLaren 540C (Club) has made its world premiere today in China at Auto Shanghai 2015. It represents the company’s entry-level model and is part of the newly established Sports Series family which also includes the 570S from where the 540C has borrowed most of the design, but with a little bit different aero kit. It rides on 19-inch front & 20-inch silver or stealth alloy wheels while the interior cabin adopts premium leather upholstery along with an infotainment system packing a 7-inch screen and support for GPS navigation and Bluetooth connectivity.
In terms of power, the McLaren 540C has a V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine developing 540 PS and 540 Nm, enough for a 0-100 km/h run in 3.5 seconds and a 0-200 km/h sprint in 10.5 seconds before topping out at 320 km/h. The engine benefits from a start/stop system and is coupled to a 7-speeed seamless shift gearbox (SSG) granting 25.5 mpg on the European combined cycle, with corresponding CO2 emissions of 258 g/km.
The vehicle tips the scales at 1,311 kg thanks to a carbon fiber monocoque and aluminum body panels, all for the starting price of £126,000. Deliveries of the McLaren 540C are scheduled to kick off early 2016.
