McLaren fully reveals P1 supercar
McLaren has finally revealed the production version of the P1 supercar which will get its first public outing next week at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show. It will be manufactured in 375 units and each car will cost 866,000 pounds. Motivation comes from a mid-mounted, V8 3.8-liter twin-turbo engine outputting 737 HP and 531 lb-ft. It works in tandem with an electric motor that generates an additional 179 HP and 192 lb-ft. This hardware setup allows the P1 to have an impressive combined output of 916 HP and 663 lb-ft. The entire power is sent to the wheels with the help of a seven-speed twin-clutch Graziano gearbox.
McLaren says the P1 can hit 62 mph (100 km/h) in less than three seconds when the electric motor (IPAS) is activated, on its way to an electronically-limited top speed of 217 mph (350 km/h). It needs under seven seconds from a standstill to hit 124 mph (200 km/h) while the 0-186 mph (300 km/h) run takes 17 seconds.
It can be driven in electric mode for approximately 20 km (12 miles) at an average speed of 48 km/h (30 mph). It boasts a 0.34 drag coefficient and is capable of generating no less than 600 kg of downforce. Tipping the scales at 1,400 kg, the McLaren P1 has CO2 emissions of less than 200 g/km and is fitted with custom-made P Zero Corsa tires developed by Pirelli.
