Mercedes-AMG unleashes 577 bhp GLE63 S Coupe in Detroit

The newly established Mercedes-AMG division of Daimler have unveiled the GLE63 S Coupe at NAIAS in Detroit this week. The high-performance crossover was developed to compete with the BMW X6 M and it will do that very well thanks to a high-powered V8 5.5-liter twin-turbo engine outputting 577 bhp (430 kW) and 760 Nm (561 lb-ft). All that power is channeled to a 4MATIC all-wheel drive system through a seven-speed automatic gearbox which allows the model to hit 60 mph (96 km/h) from a standstill in just 4.2 seconds.

The GLE63 S Coupe adopts an aggressive body with big air intakes, LED headlights, a single bar front grille and a set of massive 22-inch wheels that have a titanium gray look. Inside the cabin there are Nappa leather-wrapped sport seats which are heated and ventilated while the dashboard has also been covered in leather. Other goodies on the menu include a flat-bottomed steering wheel, faux carbon fiber dials, a piano black trim, Harman Kardon sound system and AMG floor mats.

Mercedes-AMG mention the GLE63 S Coupe comes equipped as standard with an AMG Ride Control sports suspension working with a Sports Direct-Steer steering system and an Active Curve System, while stopping power comes from ventilated & perforated discs measuring 5.4″ x 1.4″ at the front and 13.6″ x 1.0″ at the back.
