Mitsubishi plans on showcasing later this month at the Tokyo Motor Show these three concepts known as XR-PHEV (the red one), Concept AR (the green one) and he GC-PHEV (the silver one). The XR-PHEV (aka Cross Runner) serves as a preview for an upcoming crossover with power coming from a 1.1-liter, direct-injection turbocharged engine working together with an electric motor and a high-capacity battery. Next up is the Concept AR (aka Active Runabout) which is a next-gen compact MPV using the same hybrid powertrain. According to Mitsubishi, this concept has an MPV-like spacious cabin and an SUV-like maneuverability.
Last but not least, the Mitsubishi GC-PHEV (aka Grand Cruiser) is the company’s preview of a future full-sized sport utility vehicle that will adopt a full-time four-wheel drive arrangement. Power comes from a plug-in hybrid setup encompassing a 3.0-liter V6 supercharged engine coupled to an electric motor, a high-capacity battery and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
