Next-gen VW Scirocco due in 2017?

German publication Autobild has managed to obtain some preliminary information about the next generation of the Volkswagen Scirocco which they say will be introduced sometime in 2017. VW is currently working on a facelift for the current generation but they are already developing its replacement which will allegedly be a “full-fledged sports coupe.” This means the Scirocco will ditch its rather special looks but at the same time it will remain a four-seater with a big tailgate and a lot of cargo room to offer.

The same source mentions the 2017 Volkswagen Scirocco will be offered with a 1.4-liter TSI engine outputting 125 HP and also with a larger 1.4-liter TSI rated at 180 HP. There should also be a more powerful 2.0-liter TSI generating 230 HP and a peak torque of 272 lb-ft. Chances are VW is planning to upgrade some of its diesel engines and we will also might see a 300 HP engine in the flagship Scirocco R.
