Nissan Altima Coupe officially axed

It’s a sad day in the automotive industry whenever we hear a model has been cancelled. Nissan announced earlier this week that the coupe version of the Altima has been phased out from North America most likely because of a weak demand. The car made its debut back in 2006 at the Los Angeles Auto Show and was envisioned as a car for customers who were on the look for “individuality” and “style”. However, it wasn’t an appealing model as only a few were willing to buy this car, even though Nissan offered a V6 3.5-liter engine producing 270 bhp (201 kW) which is not too shabby for a model wearing the Nissan badge.

Chances are the Nissan Altima Coupe won’t be replaced in the near future because the company is afraid it won’t be successful. This is good news for Honda as their Accord Coupe will remain one of the very few large cars in the United States with a front-wheel drive coupe configuration.

In related news, Nissan has also declared a revised 2014MY Rogue will be out sometime this fall with several revisions to keep the model fresh and competitive.
