One hundred Mercedes E-Class W213 prototypes caught on camera
No less than one hundred pre-production prototypes of the 2016 Mercedes E-Class W213 were spotted this past weekend. This can only mean that an official reveal is right around the corner especially if we take into account that some of the prototypes had disguise only on the headlights and taillights. It’s easy to see the new E-Class will look a lot like its C and S brothers while the size of the car seems to have increased a little bit compared to the model it’s about to replace. With a longer wheelbase, it can only mean that a more spacious cabin will be offered and will provide extra legroom for the rear passengers.
Despite being a tad bigger than before, the new E-Class will actually be lighter than its predecessor as the MRA platform borrowed from the C-Class will actually command a serious weight loss. We don’t get to see the interior cabin in this spy video, but it’s a known fact the cabin will have a lot in common with that of the S-Class from where it will borrow the fancy dual digital display layout.
Aside from the usual sedan, wagon, coupe and cabriolet body styles, the E-Class W213 will also serve as foundation for a Maybach-branded long wheelbase derivative and there also might be a rugged, all-wheel drive wagon with a jacked up suspension to go head to head with the Audi A6 allroad quattro.
Mercedes-Benz will introduce the E-Class Sedan W213 in January 2016 at NAIAS in Detroit.
