Opel Cascada gets 200 HP 1.6-liter turbo engine
German automaker Opel has revealed plans to offer the mid-size Cascada convertible with a more powerful version of the company’s 1.6-liter SIDI Turbo ECOTEC engine. Right now, this mill is sold with a 170 HP (125 kW) output but those who want more oomph will be able to configure their Cascada with the 200 HP (147 kW) version of this engine starting this fall. Opel says the revised Cascada featuring the new variation of the engine will be showcased in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show and then go on sale shortly after that, with pricing to be announced probably at the motor show.
When fitted with this engine (which has a maximum torque of 300 Nm), the 2013 Opel Cascada is capable of hitting a top speed of 235 km/h (146 mph). It will return 35.1 mpg US (42.1 mpg UK or 6.7 liters / 100 km) while CO2 emissions stand at 158 g/km.
As you may recall, it was only yesterday when Opel presented a 1.0-liter SIDI Turbo three-cylinder engine which puts out 115 HP and 166 Nm of torque. This smaller power unit will be available at first on the company’s small city car, the Adam.
