Opel teases Astra TCR racecar, debuts at IAA
Opel has published two teaser images of its new Astra TCR racecar which will be shown this fall at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s based on the brand new Astra five-door hatchback, but as you can see it adopts a significantly more aggressive and aerodynamic body with a ventilated hood, flared wheel arches and a massive rear wing. It also has received a lower and stiffer suspension setup together with a rear diffuser and two large circular exhaust tips. Photos of the interior have not been provided, but most likely it boasts a stripped out cabin to shave off excess weight.
In terms of power, the Opel Astra TCR racecar is expected to feature a four-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine developing 330 PS (242 kW) and 302 lb-ft (410 Nm) of torque which corroborated with likely a low curb weight will enable the vehicle to achieve some impressive performances.
As the car’s name implies, it was developed specifically to take part in the TCR series so it will run in a variety of national and continental championships as well as in the global TCR International Series. According to Opel, the Astra TCR is a vehicle which can be used all over the world without making any sort of technical changes.
