Opel announces Astra OPC EXTREME for Geneva Motor Show debut in March

Opel made an interesting announcement today as they have revealed plans to showcase the Astra OPC EXTREME concept this March during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. It is the spiritual successor of the 2002 Astra OPC X-Treme but unlike its predecessor the 2014 concept will actually receive a production sibling, but in a very limited series to keep the model exclusive. The German marque is describing its latest product as a “true sports car” and more importantly they say it will be the quickest road-legal Astra ever made.

The vehicle will actually be based on the track-only Astra OPC Cup and will utilize several carbon fiber components to shave off some of the excess weight. As a reminder, the regular Astra OPC is motivated by a 2.0-liter 4-cylinder gasoline engine delivering 280 HP and a maximum torque of 400 Nm. Expect these numbers to go up on the EXTREME version which will adopt a menacing quad exhaust system, a beefy body kit, a larger fixed rear wing, lowered sports suspension and big alloy wheels.
