Porsche launches 2013 911 GT3 R

This is the refreshed 911 GT3 R from Porsche which is based on the older generation of the 911 which some of you know as the 997. Although the new model has been on sale for quite some time, Porsche is still using the old one as the foundation for the track-only GT3 R version.

The revised variant for this year packs new wheels with wider tires in order to improve traction. There’s also a newly developed aero package which is capable of allowing the car to generate more downforce which in return should increase speeds during cornering.

In terms of suspension, Porsche’s engineers made a few changes as the front and rear axles have grown by 50mm, along with a 10mm elongated wheelbase. At its heart is the same familiar 4.0-liter, flat-six engine rated at 500 HP (368 kW), taken from the 2012 variant. The power unit is mated to a sequential six-speed dog-type transmission which features shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel.

Those who own older versions of the 911 GT3 R can make the upgrade to the 2013 specification by paying 45,500 euros along with any applicable country-specific taxes.
