Powerful diesel engine and ten-speed DSG confirmed by Volkswagen

Volkswagen is currently working on a more potent, high-performance diesel engine which will be capable of outputting 136 HP (100 kW) per liter. The statement was made by the firm’s chairman Prof. Dr. Martin Winterkorn during the Vienna Motor Symposium. At the same event he added VW is also planning a dual-clutch, ten-speed transmission which promises to bring significant fuel economy gains. There aren’t any details about when these two new products will hit the market, but it’s safe to say we won’t see them until at least 2015.

Winterkorn admitted that natural gas engines will be an important part of the firm’s upcoming products since the tech has already been “fully developed” while CNG-powered cars are “environmentally friendly, economical and suitable for everyday use.” Interestingly, Winterkorn said plug-in tech will be added to the group’s entire vehicle classes.
