Work and Pay

Far too many truck drivers are having to spend an insane amount of time behind the wheel to get a decent pay. Their hourly rate is usually less than $9, which is a measly sum of money for someone who is constantly on the road and away from their home. For truck drivers who are struggling to make a good amount of money, it is a matter of trying to find those companies and states where the pay rate is more respectable.

Health Issues

When a person spends all day sitting down and driving, they are bound to suffer some negative effects on their health. Combined with the fact that many truck drivers are always eating out when they are behind the wheel, issues such as poor diet and weight gain can become a concern. Aside from more education about the healthy alternatives available to truck drivers when they want to eat or have a quick snack, it is also important for truck driving companies to provide better healthcare options for their employees. Statistics show less than 20 percent of truck drivers are NOT obese, which is an alarming statistic that has to be corrected.

Relationship Strain

Being away from home all the time is never easy, but truck drivers are often hit the worst by it. Having to be on the road and away from your family for a week more at a time puts a strain on even the best relationships. Drivers are always encouraged to try and find routes that are not going to take them hundreds of miles away from home, so they do not have to go more than a day without seeing their loved ones.

Where to Sleep?

When drivers are on the road, they have to find a spot to sleep or rest in a safe way. Unless they are driving with a partner, they do have to take a quality rest after so many hours of driving. It is important for drivers to do some research before they head off on a trip to see where the nearest spots are for them to safely get some rest at night.

Accidents

Truck drivers are both victims and the cause of many accidents on a daily basis around the United States. Not only can working less hours help, because it would mean drivers are not as tired. But it is also important for drivers to go through more training before they are put behind the wheel.
