Volkswagen e-up! to cost 2.5x more than conventional model

Volkswagen will reveal the production version of the electric up! in September during the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show. The car will be going on sale at a steep starting price of 26,900 euros with the battery included.
This is a hefty price tag taking into account the bigger Nissan Leaf kicks off from 23,790 euros when opting for a leased battery or 29,690 if you want to buy the battery pack.
The Volkswagen e-up! has an electric motor producing just 82 HP (60 kW) and 155 lb-ft (210 Nm) of torque.
It can do the 0-62 mph (100 km/h) in 12.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 81 mph (130 km/h). According to Volkswagen, the e-up! can travel up to 99 miles (160 km) on a single charge and will cost the owner just 3 euros for every 62 miles (100 km).
