Volkswagen launches Beetle GSR Limited Edition
Volkswagen has launched today at the Chicago Auto Show a special edition of the Beetle that goes by the name of GSR – Gelb Schwarzer Renner (Yellow Black Racer). It’s a throwback to the original model launched in the 70s which was based on the 1303S. As you can see, it adopts a black & yellow theme both inside and out and has also been fitted with R-Line front and rear bumpers. It sits on 19-inch alloy wheels called Tornado which are covered by 235/40 rubbers. Inside it packs black leather sport seats and steering wheel, as well as a leather handbrake lever, R-Line dash pad, black floor mats and GSR shift lever.
The Volkswagen Beetle GSR Limited Edition has been equipped with a more powerful version of the firm’s EA888 turbocharged TSI 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine which is capable of outputting 210 hp (156 kW). This engine will also be available for the Beetle Turbo and the Jetta GLI. VW is offering the Beetle GSR with a standard six-speed manual gearbox or with the optional dual clutch, six-speed automatic transmission.
It will be limited to just 3,500 units and will go on sale this fall at a yet undisclosed price tag. More than half of the cars will be sold in the United States.
