Volkswagen Scirocco GTS starts from 28,100 euros in Germany

The GTS moniker is back in business as the German carmaker Volkswagen has introduced a new version of the sexy Scirocco coupe. Some of you might remember this new variant from the 2012 Leipzig Auto Show organized in Germany earlier this year, but it hasn’t been available up until now. Sold exclusively in Europe, the Scirocco GTS has a starting price in its home country of 28,100 euros (about $36,700) and goes all the way up to 33,525 euros ($43,800) for the flagship variant.

Customers are able to get this new version of the Scirocco with one of the following five available engines.

Let’s start with the gasoline engines and mention the 1.4-liter TSI unit that develops 158 hp (160 PS), followed by a larger 2.0-liter TSI that pumps out 207 hp (210 PS). For those of you that prefer diesels, Volkswagen is offering a 2.0-liter with 138 hp and also the same engine with the BlueMotion technology. Last but not least, you can get the Volkswagen Scirocco GTS with a more powerful 2.0-liter TDI that generates 168 hp (170 PS).

To differentiate it from the other Scirocco models, this GTS edition has stripes running from the hood, over the roof and ending on the tailgate. Other than that, we notice red brake calipers (for the 2.0-liter TSI version), as well as red mirrors, 18-inch alloys (19-inch optional), a new rear bumper that has a diffuser, plus the rear spoiler borrowed from the R model.

Inside the cabin it has black seats with red stitching and piano black lacquer accents on the flat-bottomed steering wheel, dashboard and door trims. Volkswagen has also put the “GTS” logo on the front seatbacks. Other than that are a special gear knob (golf ball) and a new design of the floor mats.
