Volkswagen unleashes Beetle GRC with 544 bhp

Volkswagen has taken the wraps off the Beetle GRC which is programmed to make its racing debut this weekend at the Red Bull Global Rallycross. It will be driven by Tanner Foust and Scot Speed and will feature a wide array of modifications such as the aggressive front bumper together with a vented bonnet. It also comes with side scoops, a huge rear wing and aerodynamically-optimized mirrors. The Beetle seen here has been equipped with limited-slip differentials, an uprated suspension, high-performance brakes and 17-inch rims wrapped around in competition tires provided by Yokohama.

Motivation comes from a heavily modified 4-cylinder, 1.6-liter TSI turbocharged gasoline engine generating an impressive 544 bhp sent to both axles through a 6-speed sequential gearbox. The Volkswagen Beetle GRC sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in only 2.1 seconds so it should be an absolute rocket.
