The 2015 Audi R18 e-tron quattro has made its online appearance ahead of this year’s debut in the World Endurance Championship organized by FIA. Compared to the 2014-spec model, this new and improved variant adopts different headlights featuring matrix LED and Audi Laserlight technologies while the more aerodynamic body benefits from redesigned front wheel arches with bigger air inlets.  The monocoque has been carried over from the previous model while the engine cover, hood and wind have been reworked.

Power comes from a V6 4.0-liter TDI engine developing 558 HP (410 kW) which works together with an electric motor developing 272 HP (200 kW). The 2015 Audi R18 e-tron quattro weighs 870 kg (1,918 lbs) and will consume 2.5% less diesel per lap compared to the previous model. The encapsulated flywheel energy storage system will be able to store 17% more than before so it will be capable of carrying 700 kilojoules while the amount of energy used per lap has been doubled from two to four megajoules. The energy recovered during braking is sent to the front axle during acceleration to provide additional power.

The 2015 Audi R18 e-tron quattro is a follow-up to last year’s model which managed to triumph at the legendary Le Mans 24-hour endurance race.
