Skoda unveils Rapid Spaceback

The Skoda Rapid Spaceback has been unveiled today by the Czech automaker and it’s essentially a hatchback version of the Rapid sedan. As a result of the body style change, the Spaceback is 180mm shorter than the regular Rapid but maintains the same 2620mm wheelbase. The reduction in size can be seen in the cargo area where the Spaceback offers 415 liters with the seats up while the normal Rapid provides 550 liters. The same story is applied once you fold down the rear seats where the Rapid Spaceback has 1,380 liters, as opposed to the sedan which provides 1490 liters. Rear passengers benefit from 64mm legroom and 980mm headroom.

The car will be available in Europe with a variety of four gasoline and two diesel engines, with output ranging from 74 bhp to 121 bhp. There’s also the more frugal GreenLine model which comes with a 1.6-liter TDI producing 89 bhp. In this configuration, the Rapid Spaceback will return an impressive 61.8 mpg US (74.3 mpg UK or 3.8 liters / 100 km), while CO2 emissions are rated at 99 g/km.
