Audi R8 e-tron officially axed
It has come to our attention that Audi has officially stopped plans of putting the R8 e-tron into production, based on a series of reasons. The main one has to do with the battery technology which hasn’t been developed as fast as the Ingolstadt-based automaker wanted. Aside from this reason, costs of manufacturing these batteries hasn’t dropped as much as Audi had predicted a while ago, thus not making the R8 e-tron feasible for reaching the production phase. In addition, Audi is not satisfied with the long charging times of the battery, as well as the limited range offered by the electric supercar.
Even though they already built ten units of the R8 e-tron, none of them will be sold since Audi wants to use them in-house to conduct further testing and continue with the development of the electric powertrain.
