Audi R8 LMX is world’s first road-going production car with laser headlights
This is the Audi R8 LMX which marks the world premiere of laser headlight technology on a production, road-legal car. The tech is available only for the high beams and encompasses four high power laser diodes that emit a white light at a 5,500 Kelvin color temperature. These lights are turned on at 60 km/h and according to Audi they increase not only visibility but also safety. Participating traffic is not affected by the laser light because the R8 LMX boasts a camera-based sensor system which adjusts the light accordingly.
Limited to 99 units, the Audi R8 LMX costs 210,000 euros and wears an exclusive Ara Blue paint and has received a fixed rear wing together with carbon fiber flics. It sits on an unique set of 19-inch rims and benefits from a carbon fiber ceramic braking system and glossy black exhaust pipes. On the inside it boasts a matte carbon fiber trim, Alcantara headliner and illuminated door sill plates.
Motivation is offered by the well-known V10 5.2-liter engine generating 570 PS and 540 Nm set to the quattro AWD system through a 7-speed S tronic gearbox allowing the high-performance coupe hit 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds before topping out at 320 km/h.
