Honda Civic Type R revealed for BTCC
The Honda Civic Type R will take part in this year’s edition of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). The road-going version made its debut earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show and now it’s just about ready to put on a race livery as the BTCC-spec version will be revealed in full at Donington on March 24. The track-only variant has been designed and built in the Team Dynamics workshops located in Pershore, Worcestershire.
Even though it’s based on the road legal 2015 Honda Civic Type R, there are some major differences between the two as the racecar has a whole new body with beefier bumpers and side skirts, a revised rear wing while the interior cabin has been stripped out and has received a roll cage. Moreover, the car has race-spec wheels and adopts a stiffer suspension setup suitable for the track.
More importantly, output of the four-cylinder 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine has increased from 310 HP (228 kW) to 350 HP (257 kW) while the available torque has remained unchanged at 295 lb-ft (400 Nm).
