How To Create A Brilliant Show Car: A Guide For Newbies

Do you want to build an impressive show car? If so, you might be wondering how to get started.  Despite what you might think, it’s not that hard to build an award-winning show car. All it takes is a lot of time and dedication to the cause. And some money, of course!

People build show cars for different reasons. Some do so because they fancy starting a new automotive project.

Others build a show car to help preserve a particular model, especially one that isn’t built anymore.

In today’s blog post, I will share with you the necessary steps to go ahead and start crafting your show car. Here is what you need to know:

Choosing a car

The first thing you need to do is select a vehicle to turn into your show car. Most people already have a car that they want to use. If you don’t, you’ll need to go out and buy a car!

Be sure to choose a model that is sound from a mechanical and bodywork point of view. Remember that the cheaper the car, the more you’ll need to do to fix it. Show cars are all about models that look and act like they’ve just got built.

No-one wants to see a rusty old car that doesn’t work! Car events only allow cars that are nothing short of perfect to display and get seen by others.

Have somewhere dedicated to store your car

When you’ve got the car you want, you need to keep it somewhere safe and warm. In an ideal world, you would use the garage attached to your home. Of course, if you don’t have a garage, you could always rent one or something like a drive-in workshop.

The idea is to keep your car in as perfect a condition as possible. You don’t want the elements to attack the paintwork. Nor do you want to risk vandals from damaging your bodywork or stealing parts off the car. Storing your show car in a dedicated space like a garage is both safe and secure.

Restore it to a showroom condition

The next stage is to spend some time getting it to a condition where it looks brand new! That may involve doing many different things, such as repairing and respraying the bodywork. You may also need to give the mechanical side of things your attention too.

Last, but not least, be sure to polish and way the paint to keep it at its best!

Take care when transporting the car

You might get tempted to drive your car to the events where you want to show it off. But, that’s a big no-no! Instead, you should hire a towing company to transport your pride and joy for you.

It won’t cost you much, and it means that your car won’t rack up lots of extra mileage. It also means that you’re less likely to damage the car in transit.

Keep the car clean at each event

The thing about car shows is that the public will come up to your car and touch it. You then end up with a vehicle that’s full of marks and smudges everywhere!

You could tell people not to touch your car, of course. Or, you could be a bit more chilled out and enjoy the event! Every so often, just wipe the car over with some cleaning products to keep that showroom shine.

It won’t take you long, and it gives you something to do. Also, you’re more likely to win a “show and shine” competition!
