Kia Cross GT introduced at Chicago Auto Show

At the Chicago Auto Show this year, South Korean automaker KIA has unveiled the Cross GT concept which has a long wheelbase yet short overhangs. In terms of design, we notice the rear-hinged doors, prominent front grille as well as the impressive multi-paneled sky light which has hexagonal glass inserts. KIA says this concept measures 192.8 inches in length, 79.1 inches in width and 65.3 inches in height, with a wheelbase which stands at 122 inches. Inside the cabin it adopts a minimalistic look with leather upholstery, touchscreen infotainment system and an American Walnut trim. The roomy interior can host up to four people in utmost comfort.

Under the hood is a hybridized V6 3.8-liter engine mated to an 8-speed automatic gearbox as well as a torque-vectoring AWD system. Thanks to this setup, the KIA Cross GT concept has a combined maximum power output of 400 hp (298 kW) and 677 Nm (500 lb-ft) of torque. There’s also an electric motor installed between the transmission and the engine which allows the concept to travel only on electric power for up to 20 miles (32 km).

KIA didn’t say anything about launching a production version based on this concept, but some of the styling and tech seen here could be carried over onto future models.
