Mercedes-Benz introduces all-new GLC compact crossover
Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off the GLC compact crossover which will effectively replace the GLK. It looks basically like a larger GLA as the designers have decided to replace the GLK’s blocky body with a more curvaceous design as seen in the most recent models launched by the Daimler-owned marque. It will be available with Off-Road and AMG styling package for those who want to spice things up while on the inside the C-Class cabin has essentially been carried over, including the 7- or 8.4-inch display of the infotainment system. You will be able to order the car with an optional panoramic glass roof, leather or Nappa leather upholsteries, as well as a wood or carbon fiber trim.
118mm longer and 80 kg than the model it replaces, the new GLC compact crossover offers a more spacious interior cabin and a bigger trunk that can hold 1,600 liters once you fold down the rear seats. It will be available in a wide variety of versions, starting out with a GLC 220d 4MATIC rated at 170 PS and 400 Nm, followed by a GLC 250d 4MATIC with 204 PS and 500 Nm while the GLC 250 4MATIC has 211 PS and 350 Nm.
Mercedes-Benz is also introducing a GLC 350e 4MATIC plug-in hybrid version which mixes up a 211 PS gasoline engine with a 116 PS electric motor which will be enough muscle to grant a 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) sprint in 5.9 seconds before topping out at 146 mph (235 km/h). The US-spec model will be offered in GLC 300 and GLC 300 4MATIC versions that share a 4-cylinder, 2.0-liter turbo with 241 bhp and 273 lb-ft.
Sales of the GLC compact crossover are scheduled to commence before the end of this year.
