Shelby GT350R Mustang introduced in Detroit
Ford has taken the wraps off the Shelby GT350R Mustang in Detroit during the 2015 North American International Auto Show. It’s scheduled to go on sale later this year and looks significantly more aggressive than the standard version thanks to a beefier body with a prominent diffuser, vented hood, wheel air curtains and vented wheel wells. It also comes with a revised front splitter, a carbon fiber rear wing and fender vents which reduce turbulences.
The Shelby GT350R Mustang is motivated by a naturally aspirated V8 5.2-liter engine that has a flat-plane crankshaft and delivers more than 500 HP (368 kW) and in excess of 400 lb-ft (542 Nm). All that power is channeled to the wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox which works together with a Torsen limited slip differential.
It sits on 19-inch lightweight wheels made from carbon fiber while to shave off excess weight Ford has removed the rear seats, audio system and the air conditioning. Moreover, the Shelby GT350R Mustang comes without the backup camera, exhaust resonators, trunk floorboard and carpet as well as the emergency tire sealer & inflator.
All these measures have shaved off 130 lbs (59 kg) compared to the Shelby GT350 Track Pack while at an additional cost the customer can add dual-zone AC, 7-speaker sound system, 8-inch touchscreen with navigation and other goodies.
