Buyer profile has changed dramatically in the recent years with most buyers looking for a car that combines their everyday practicality with family lifestyle. This explains why Toyota Hilux has edged out Toyota Corolla to become the best selling vehicle in Australia. This is the first time the best selling vehicle in Australia has been classified as a commercial vehicle rather than a passenger car.

The success of Toyota Hilux results from the ability to be used as a passenger car and commercial car at the same time. Also, it is packed with the best traits of a commercial and SUV drive.

Here are some of the reasons why Toyota Hilux may remain the top seller in Australia for some time.

  • Reliability

Toyota Hilux is one of the most reliable pickups. There are hardly any recalls made for this pick up thanks to the manufacturers who always equip it with the genuine components. With regular updates, it is needless to say that Toyota Hilux has the best features available in any pickup.

  • Strong and Robust Image

Manufactures ensure the strength of Toyota Hilux by giving it a strong ladder chassis. It carries braked towing capacities that range between 2250 Kgs and 2500 Kgs. Also, its payload ranges between 860Kgs and 1405 Kgs across the trims. This payload capacity is higher than that of other pickups by other manufacturers.

Lastly, the layout trims are packed with heavy duty protection plates to protect the major components.

  • Versatility

The best thing about Toyota Hilux is that it can be used as a commercial or family vehicle. You can also increase the storage, enhance security or blend both using canopies for Hilux. They are lockable and provide a secure area for storing items.

  • Power churners

Toyota Hilux comes with 2.4 litre and 2.8 litre diesel power units. The 2.4 litre engine can knock out 147 stallions of peak power at 343-400 Nm and 3400 rpm. The bigger engine can deliver a peak power output of 174 hp. The engines are mated with 6 speed
automatic gearbox or 5 speed manual. The mileage delivered ranges between 7.69 kmpl- 12 kmpl which is quite decent for a pickup.

  • Parts and servicing

Toyota being a recognized automaker worldwide and the leader in Australia automotive market has a large network of parts and service centers which ensure that your Toyota Hilux is always in the best condition.

Also, Toyota offers 3 years of upto 100,000 kilometers of warranty on Brand new Hilux. If the complimentary warranty is expired, paid services is available at Toyota dealer centers where trained mechanics use the latest technologies to give your Hilux
the needed rejuvenation.

To increase comfort, Hilux has power windows, automatic air conditioner, illuminated entry system, wireless door lock and an advanced infotainment system with MP3, USB and AUX ports, 6.5 inch capacitive touch screen and 2/4/6 speakers.

Toyota South Africa has taken the wraps off a modified Hilux packing no less than 455 PS. The unique vehicle came to life as a way of celebrating one million Hilux sales in the country, a performance which was achieved a couple of months ago when Pretoria businessman Shabier Aboobaker acquired a 3.0 D-4D Legend 45 single cab model which represented the one millionth Hilux sold locally. This bespoke vehicle is essentially a road-going version of the Hilux racecar and comes with a 5.0-liter V8 engine borrowed from the Lexus IS-F, but further tuned to develop a massive 455 PS at 6,000 rpm.

It also has a twin-plate AP racing clutch and a full tubular exhaust system while the all-wheel drive system and the D-4D gearbox have been essentially carried over from the standard model.

The 2016 Toyota Hilux is back in another teaser video prior to a full reveal scheduled for May 21. The design seems to have undergone a subtle evolution which has made the pick-up truck appear more refined compared to the outgoing model while on the inside it is expected to receive a more car-like interior.

More important changes have occurred underneath the hood where Toyota is eliminating the KD engines to make room for a new array of GD units which were revealed last week during the Vienna Motor Symposium.
