Volkswagen Gran Lavida introduced at Auto Shanghai

At this year’s Auto Shanghai, German automaker Volkswagen has launched the estate variant of the Lavida which will be sold under the Gran Lavida moniker. This is just one of the many models that VW has prepared for the Shanghai motor event. It will be manufactured at the company’s Shanghai-Volkswagen joint venture exclusively for the Chinese market. Compared to the sedan, both cars share the same wheelbase, but it is worth mentioning that the length of the station wagon has been reduced from the sedan’s 4605mm to 4454mm.

Needless to say, the Volkswagen Gran Lavida will keep the same engine lineup as its sedan sibling. In other words, we should expect to see a 1.4-liter turbocharged mill pumping out 130 bhp (97 kW) and a less powerful 1.6-liter engine outputting 104 bhp (77 kW).

The 2013 Volkswagen Gran Lavida features the VW Group’s PQ34 platform and is targeted to the low-end segment. Production is expected to commence sometime in June. The Gran Lavida is one of Volkswagen’s new models part of a bold objective to offer 90 models in China by the year 2015.
