Volkswagen Passat GTE pricing announced for German market

The 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE is now available on order at home in Germany from €44,250. It originally debuted at the 2014 Paris Motor Show and can now be purchased in both sedan and wagon versions, but the latter costs an extra €1,000. Both of them come with a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder TSI engine rated at 156 PS (115 kW) working together with a 115 PS (85 kW) electric motor. This gives the model a combined output of 218 PS (160 kW) and a peak torque of 400 Nm (243 lb-ft). Output is transferred to the road with help from a dual-clutch, six-speed transmission.

In terms of performance, the hybridized Passat needs less than eight seconds until 62 mph (100 km/h) and can reach a maximum speed in excess of 136 mph (219 km/h) when running in hybrid mode. If the vehicle is powered only by the electric motor, top speed will stand at 80 mph (129 km/h).

And now for the most interesting part, the 2015 Volkswagen Passat GTE consumes just 1.6 liters / 100 km with CO2 emissions of 37 g/km. It has been equipped with a lithium-ion battery pack that has a 9.9 kWh capacity and grants a pure electric range of up to 31 miles (50 km). With the 50-liter gasoline tank all filled up and the battery pack fully charged, the vehicle will travel for up to 692 miles (1,114 km).
