Audi previews Q2 with Crosslane Coupe Concept

One of the most interesting concepts of the 2012 Paris Motor Show is without any doubt Audi’s Crosslane Coupe that previews the styling that the upcoming Q2 will approach once it reaches the market in the years to come. The vehicle seen in these images is 4250mm long, 1900mm wide and 1500mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2550mm.

In other words, it is longer, wider and taller than the 3-door version of the Audi A3 and at the same time lower and shorter than the Q3 which at the moment represents Audi’s entry-level offering in the SUV segment. This will be replaced by the Q2 once the baby SUV will hit the market in a few years.

Designed by Wolfgang Egger, the Audi Crosslane Coupe Concept adopts a tridimensional grille design and has a lower and wider stance. Motivation comes from an electric motor that produces 116 hp and 184 lb-ft of torque. There’s a battery pack that offers an all-electric range of up to 80 miles, while after the battery is depleted a conventional 1.5-liter 3-cylinder engine kicks in.

Various sources are indicating that the Audi Q2 will hit the market in 2015 and will be targeted as a direct rival for the next generation of the MINI Countryman. Compared to this concept, the Q2 will adopt a more traditional 5-door layout, a higher roofline and a four-seat cabin. The car will ride on the VW Group’s MQB platform that will also be used for the second generation of the Q3 which is scheduled for a 2017 release.
