Jeep has introduced a new limited edition of its Renegade model. Being christened as Jeep Renegade Night Eagle Edition, it is based on the Longitude mid-range level. The Night Eagle edition is limited to 350 units, while it goes on sale from February 1, 2016 in the United Kingdom. The limited edition Jeep Renegade comes with several added features, while mechanically it comes with the 1.6L MultiJet II engine and 2.0L MultiJet II mill.
Talking about the Jeep Renegade Night Eagle edition, it features 17-inch black alloy wheels, rear parking sensors, satin grey Jeep badges and unique Night Eagle badge, coloured roof bars and side mirrors, and satin grey grille rings on a black front grille. Out of the 350 units, 160 would be offered in the unique Volcano Sand matt paint finish while the rest will be available in two other colours: Carbon Black and Alpine White. Just so you know, Jeep had launched a similar Night Eagle limited edition of the Cherokee in November last year. The limited edition Jeep Renegade could further be equipped with impeccable features such as electric panoramic sunroof, heated front seats and steering wheel, and regular size spare tyre.
The interior cabin boasts of exclusive seats in bark brown fabric with electric lumbar support for the driver, leather wrapped steering wheel, dual zone climate control, DAB UConnect radio with 5-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth and satnav, and cruise control. Jeep Renegade Night Eagle edition gets two engines: a 1.6L MultiJet II motor and a 2.0L MultiJet II mill. The former has a power output of 120 hp, while the latter develops a top power of 140 hp. Both the engines are linked to a 6-speed manual transmission. The 1.6L engine gets a 2WD, while the 2.0L has a 4X4 drive system. The new Jeep Renegade Night Eagle costs £21,595 OTR for the 1.6 MultiJet II 120hp 2WD, and £24,095 OTR for the 2.0 MultiJet II 140hp 4WD.
Toyota, the Japanese autogiant, has fully acquired its subsidiary Daihatsu Motor Co., Ltd. (Daihatsu). Under the new agreement, Daihatsu is all set to become a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota by way of a share exchange which is expected to be completed in August 2016. The purpose of the agreement is to develop ever-better cars by adopting a unified strategy for the small car segment.
Additionally, the aim of the share exchange is to enhance the value of both brands. Although Toyota and Daihatsu will engage in friendly competition and maintain separate management styles that capitalize on their respective capabilities, bringing the two together under a shared strategy will enable them to jointly overcome otherwise prohibitive obstacles in the future, including resource-intensive undertakings such as the development of next-generation technologies and entry into business areas with growth potential.
Explaining the decision, Toyota President Akio Toyoda said, “This is an opportunity for us both to stop feeling that we need to go it alone, and trust each other to take full advantage of our respective strengths. In other words, we can now focus on our core competencies. That, I believe, is the key to achieving and sustaining global competitiveness.”
Land Rover Defender has finally bidded adieu after 68 years of extravagant journey as the last unit was rolled out of Solihull production facility a couple of days back. To mark this wonderful occasion, the company invited more than 700 current and former Solihull employees. These employees were involved in the production of Series Land Rover and Defender vehicles. Also, the British luxury marquee also announced a new Heritage Restoration Programme, which will be based on the site of the existing Solihull production line.
Dr Ralf Speth, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover, said: “Today we celebrate what generations of men and women have done since the outline for the Land Rover was originally drawn in the sand. The Series Land Rover, now Defender, is the origin of our legendary capability, a vehicle that makes the world a better place, often in some of the most extreme circumstances. There will always be a special place in our hearts for Defender, among all our employees, but this is not the end. We have a glorious past to champion, and a wonderful future to look forward to.”
Coming to the Heritage Restoration Programme, it would be based on the site of the existing Solihull production line. A team of experts, including some long serving Defender employees, will oversee the restoration of a number of Series Land Rovers sourced from across the globe. The first vehicles will go on sale in July 2016. The Defender Celebration in Solihull saw more than 25 unique vehicles from Land Rover’s history come together in a procession around the Solihull plant, featuring the final current Defender vehicle off the line. Land Rover associates were joined by a number of previous employees from the past 68 years to help celebrate this historic day.
Skoda Octavia vRS 4X4 has gone on sale in the United Kingdom from today. The Octavia vRS 4X4 hatch has been priced at £27,315 OTR, while the Estate comes at a price of £28,515 OTR. The vRS 230 model was unveiled last year and the 4X4 derivative further expands the vehicle range. Just so you know, all-wheel-drive system has been offered for the first time with the vRS range.
As for features, Skoda Octavia vRS 4X4 comes loaded with bi-xenon headlights, Amundsen touchscreen satellite navigation system, 18-inch Gemini anthracite alloy wheels, sports suspension and dual-zone climate control with humidity sensor. The all-wheel-drive models also boast of multi-link sports suspension and electronic differential lock XDS+ for enhanced safety and comfort. In addition, a special package is being offered by Skoda which includes unique vRS bumpers, spoiler and interior.
Under the hood, the Octavia vRS 4X4 has a 2.0L TDI diesel engine which develops a maximum power of 184PS and peak torque of 380Nm between 1,750-3,250rpm. The engine is linked to a 6-speed DSG automatic gearbox as standard, while the power is transferred to all the four wheels. The vRS 4X4 hatch variant does a 0-62mph sprint in just 7.6 seconds, while the Estate variant does the same in 7.7 seconds. For those wondering, the 4X2 or two-wheel-drive model touches 62mph mark from stadstill in 7.9 seconds. The fuel economy figures for the hatch and Estate are 57.7mpg and 56.5mpg, respectively. The CO2 output figures stand at 129g/km for the hatch and 131g/km for the estate.
Aston Martin is all set to introduce the DB9 successor, which has been named as DB11. The company even released a teaser video, which revealed the DB11 carrying a newly-developed 5.2L V12 twin turbo powertrain. And, now for the first time, the Aston Martin DB11 has been spied as test mule in the United Kingdom with lot of camouflage by our friends at Motor1. Speculations are rife that Aston Martin DB11 would have its world premiere at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March.
Going by the spy-images, the DB9 successor appears to be an ultra-luxurious sports car with a bold front grille and sleek LED headlamps. The spied model appears to be pretty aerodynamic as almost every company model. Riding on lightweight alloys, it has a big slpoing roof and a dual exhaust system. The British uber-luxury automaker is said to be incorporating a high-performance braking system in the DB11. The cabin appears to be in pre-production mode, but one can clearly notice a digital instrument cluster and a huge infotainment system. In addition, the mule also shows a 3-spoke steering wheel, a Comand controller, and climate control switchgear.
Mechanically, the all-new 5.2L V12 engine would be at the helm of affairs. The power and torque figures aren’t disclosed yet but it is believed to be belting out in excess of 600 hp. Just so you know, Aston Martin DB9 used to derive its power from a naturally-aspirated 6.0L V12 engine. The 6.0L motor generated a maximum power of 510 hp and peak torque of 620Nm. But with the DB11, the company seems to go ahead of the aforementioned figures. Several reports also indicate that the DB11 would use a new architecture which would make it much lighter than the DB9, and eventually resulting in faster and agile than its predecessor.
GMC has introduced a new special edition of the 2016 Sierra All Terrain model. Being named as 2016 Sierra All Terrain X, the special edition comes with several cosmetic upgrades over the standard model. The new Sierra All Terrain X is offered on the 2016 Sierra 1500 4WD crew cab/short box models with SLT trim.
GMC Sierra All Terrain X rides on 18-inch black aluminum wheels with 265/65R18SL Mud-Terrain-rated Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac MT tires. The special edition also has a distinctive front grille with body-color surround and tinted chrome accents. The front bumper, rear bumper and door handles are in body-color. In addition, there are black-colored sport side steps, exterior mirrors and bed-mounted sport bar to compliment the high-performance LED headlamps. The Sierra All Terrain X is available in a total of six colors: Onyx Black, Summit White, Stone Blue Metallic, Iridium Metallic, Crimson Red Tintcoat, and Light Steel Gray Metallic.
The GMC Sierra All Terrain X boasts of rear park assist, All-Terrain-logo at the instrument cluster and Inclinometer in the driver information center. Under the hood, the Sierra special edition has a 5.3-litre V8 engine which generates a maximum power of 365 hp. Just so you know, it is higher by 10 hp as compared to the standard models. Without any surprises, the 2016 GMC Sierra All Terrain X features a four-wheel drive system with an Eaton locking differential. It is expected to go on sale by March 2016, while the pricing is not announced yet.
Porsche has unveiled the new 718 Boxster and 718 Boxster S with new four-cylinder turbocharged engines. The new Porsche Boxster can be ordered now and is priced in a range of £41,739-£50,695 (RRP). The first deliveries are expected to start by March 2016 in the UK. The new 718 Boxster is more powerful than the outgoing model of the mid-engined sports car.
Talking about the exterior design, the new 718 Boxster is totally different from its predecessor. The front fascia is bolder than before with bigger cooling air intakes. There are bi-Xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights as standard feature. The wheel arches have been newly-designed with new 19-inch wheels being on offer as standard and 20-inch as an option. Additionally, side sills and door handles have been restyled to provide the sports car a distinguished appearance. Coming to the rear end, it is quite changed as compared to the current model with much broader look. The completely redesigned three-dimensional LED tail-lamps and a new accent strip with integrated ‘Porsche’ badge between the tail lights complete the exterior of the sports car.
Inside the cabin, there is an all-new dashboard with latest generation of Porsche Communication Management (PCM) and state-of-the-art touchscreen and mobile phone preparation as standard. Under the hood, the 718 Boxster has a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbocharged engine which develops 300 hp of top power and 380 Nm of peak torque. The torque, as compared to the previous model, has increased by 100Nm. Talking about the high-performance 718 Boxster S variant, it is powered by a 2.5-litre engine which churns out 350 hp of maximum power and 420Nm of highest torque. Just so you know, it is around 60Nm more than the previous model. Both the engines are married to a six-speed manual transmission as standard. However, the PDK double-clutch automatic transmission and the Sport Chrono Package are available as optional.
Ferrai has started teasing the FF facelift ahead of its expected debut at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on February 15 in Northern Italy. The first teaser image of the 2016 Ferrari FF facelift is released by the company. The FF facelift had started testing early last year and after an extensive year long test runs, it would be unveiled next month. The upgrades would be cosmetic as well as mechanical.
Going by the spy-shots, the front fascia of the 2016 Ferrari FF seems to have grown a bit with redesigned grille taking the centre stage. The headlamps also flaunt a revised styling with the teaser image revealing new tail-lamps and air intakes. It is also being learnt that Ferrari might offer a carbon fiber roof. Inside the cabin, there would be subtle changes and it is expected to be carried over from the current model. However, reports have indicated that the new FF would feature an updated infotainment system with Google Play. Just so you know, the aforementioned infotainment system would be borrowed from the California T.
For those asking, the ongoing Ferrari FF derives its power from a 6.3-litre V12 motor. It develops 651 hp of maximum power and 504 pound-feet of highest torque. Undoubtedly, it is immensely powerful but the FF facelift is believed to be even more powerful with power output as high as 690 hp. It would be linked to an 8-speed transmission which would replace the current 7-speed speed dual-clutch transmission. Also, the all-wheel-drive system of the supercar would see an update. Apparently, Ferrari would also roll out a new base variant of the FF with a V8 bi-turbo motor. This engine, sourced from the 488 GTB, would deliver 660hp of top power and 560 lb-ft of peak torque.
Maserati, the Italian luxury marquee, is all set to introduce the Levante crossover at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show in March. But prior to its official unveiling, the company’s first crossover has been spied as test mule, alebit with camouflage. There are rumours abuzz the Maserati Levante would also be offered with a plug-in hybrid variant at a later stage. Just so you know, Maserati Levante is based on Kubang Concept.
Going by the spy-shots captured by our friends at Motor1, the Levante appears to be a high-end crossover with bold front grille. Also, a sportier bumper can be noticed complimenting the sleeker headlamps. Moving to the rear-end, there is the sloping roofline which is disguised. The rear fenders look rugged, while a quad-pipe exhaust system and pointed tail-lamps complete the exterior styling of the crossover. The cabin would boast of leather seats and a three-spoke steering wheel. There would also be a big centre console comprising of various buttons.
Coming to the mechanical aspects of the crossover, it would be available with an array of powertrains unlike the existing Maserati models. It would be powered by a V6 motor which would generate power outputs of 345 hp and 419 hp. In addition, there would also be a high-performance V8 engine on offer which would belt out a massive 552 hp. The diesel variants, reportedly, would have power outputs of 246 hp, 271 hp, and 335 hp. As said before, there would also be an environment friendly plug-in-hybrid variant which would use the same engine as the facelifted Ghibli and Quattroporte. Maserati Levante would be challenging the likes of Bentley Bentayga, Lamborghini Urus and Aston Martin DBX.
Ferrari California T is now available with the brand-new Handling Speciale (HS) option. It would have its debut at the Geneva International Motor Show in March. The front-engined V8 model would get a series of specific calibrations and a set-up under the Handling Speciale (HS) package. Not only there are technical and mechanical upgrades, but there are also a few cosmetic modifications in the California T as a part of the HS Package.
Talking in detail, the HS Package incorporates new damper settings and modified springs which make the 2-seater sports car more stiffer than before. The engine sound is fresh and louder with the performance being more sportier. The gear-shift logic in Sports mode has also been modified (both in automatic and manual), resulting in faster, sportier gear engagement during both up- and down-shifts. In addition, the front springs and rear springs are 16 percent and 19 percent stiffer under the HS Package.
Coming to the cosmetic upgrades, there is a new exhaust system with silencers featuring two primary pipes and a new geometry design. According to the Italian automaker, “The exhaust was developed in tandem with the engine and gearbox control software to underline the performance gains, with a more rapid response and improved sound and volume when driven hard.” The front grille and the rear diffuser are done in new matte Grigio Ferro Met color with matte black fences and matte black tailpipes. For those wondering, there is a special plaque in the cabin which indicates that the car sports the HS optional package.
