McLaren 12C Spider showcased at Pebble Beach

The McLaren 12C Spider has made its first public appearance since the model was announced, being showcased at this year’s edition of the Pebble Beach show. The vehicle was wearing a volcano yellow paint and was shown to a select audience during the Gooding & Company Auction preview.

The Spider version of the MP4-12C Coupe has been fitted with a retractable hard top folding roof that can be lowered or raised in approximately 17 seconds at a speed of up to 19 mph. Just like its Coupe counterpart, the Spider comes with the same carbon monocell chassis so it benefits from the same high level of structural stiffness.

For the 2013 model year, all versions of the MP4-12C have received a wide array of updates, with the most important one being the power increase from the previous 592 hp to 616 hp. In addition, McLaren’s engineers have also done some tweaking to the twin-clutch, SSG 7-speed gearbox. Compared to its hard-top sibling, the Spider weighs 40 kg more but the performance loss is minimal as both versions perform the 0-62 mph sprint in 3.1 seconds, while the 0-100 mph is done in 6 seconds by the Coupe and 6.1 seconds by the Spider. The latter has a top speed of 204 mph.
